Meet Tolita
We created Tolita’s World to share the story of our spunky, funny dog while teaching kids that every dog, no matter their challenges, deserves to be loved like family.
Tolita is a Jack Russell Terrier mix we adopted from Midwest Animal Rescue & Services (MARS) in 2014. Before we got Tolita, she was adopted and returned by three different families because of her dog reactivity and separation anxiety. But that wasn’t what we saw after meeting her and falling in love with her curiosity, loyalty, and scruffy fur. We only wanted one lovably naughty pup, so she fit the bill perfectly. Tolita has been part of our family for over 10 years and the stories about her shenanigans are endless!
More Than Just a Bad Dog
“Tolita: The Best Bad Dog” is a story about a mischievous but lovable rescue dog, Tolita, her two moms and human sister, Sofia. Through a humorous and sweet story based on our real-life Tolita, Sofia learns about acceptance and the commitment of owning a dog. We hope our book helps break the expectation that only dogs that fit a standard of behavior created by modern society deserve to be rescued and have a family.
While Tolita’s story will especially resonate with families who have adopted rescue dogs, its lessons about acceptance, responsibility, and unconditional love are universal. We’re also proud to feature a two-mom family as a natural part of the story, because every family deserves to see themselves reflected in the books their children read.
